What “Tested Clean” Means at Proof

We test because we use these products ourselves, and because our customers trust us with products that go on or in their body. Proof works with independent, ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratories, including Anresco Laboratories and SC Labs. These labs have no financial stake in whether a product passes or fails.

Our testing program looks at cannabinoid potency and the contaminants that matter most for hemp and cannabis products. Explore the panels below to see what we look for and why.

What We Test For

What it is:

Potency testing measures cannabinoids such as CBD, CBN, CBG, and delta-9 THC. It verifies that cannabinoid levels align with the product label and confirms hemp products remain within applicable hemp-derived THC limits.

What it is:

This panel screens for organophosphates, organochlorines, and other pesticide residues that can be introduced during cultivation.

What it is:

Mycotoxin testing looks for toxic compounds, including aflatoxins and ochratoxin A, that may be produced by mold or fungi on improperly dried or stored plant material.

What it is:

CBD and CBN extraction may use a solvent, such as ethanol or CO2. This panel checks that the extraction process leaves the final extract free from concerning solvent residue.

What it is:

Heavy metal testing screens for lead, mercury, cadmium, and arsenic.

What it is:

This panel screens for microbial contaminants, including E. coli, Salmonella, yeast, and mold.

How to Read a COA

A Certificate of Analysis, or COA, is an official lab report. It can look technical at first, but a few sections tell you most of what you need to know.

Start with the cannabinoid panel

Near the top of the report, look for the cannabinoid profile. You will see cannabinoids such as CBD, CBN, CBG, and delta-9 THC, often reported as percentages and milligrams. Compare the reported CBD or CBN amount with the product label. The figures should align closely.

Review the contaminant panels

Look for results for pesticides, mycotoxins, residual solvents, heavy metals, and microbials. Results may be marked “ND,” meaning not detected, or listed as a measured value against an action limit, the maximum amount allowed by the testing standard. A passing result means reported values are not detected or fall below the applicable action limit.

Check the lab and report details

The report identifies the testing laboratory, testing date, analytical methods, and other documentation details. Proof works with Anresco Laboratories and SC Labs, independent ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratories.

Cannabis Testing and Hemp Testing at Proof

Proof serves customers through two sales channels, cannabis and hemp. They are two channels of the same Proof brand, not separate brands. The regulatory frameworks differ, so our testing approach reflects the requirements of each channel.

Cannabis

California cannabis regulations require independent testing of final cannabis production before products reach the shelf. If a cannabis product does not pass the required testing panels, it is not approved for sale.

Hemp

Proof’s hemp program focuses on ingredient-level testing and COA-validated formulation methods. We independently verify the hemp inputs used in our formulations, then validate the formulation methods for consistency and reliability. This approach evaluates both the materials that go into a product and the process used to formulate it.
