The best CBD roll-on is one where you can see what is in it: CBD per container on the label, a full ingredient list, a THC result you are comfortable with, and a lab report you can open. After that, it comes down to feel, size, and price.
We compared eight roll-ons from brands that post lab results. Our own Proof Ice Hot CBD Roll-On comes first, and we say plainly where it falls short. Only two had a finished-product lab report we could read (ours and Sagely Naturals'); for the rest, we say what we did not open.
Most of what you notice from a roll-on is the sensation from ingredients like menthol and camphor. Research on topical CBD is limited and early, and we make no claims about what any roll-on here does for any condition.

How we chose
- Public lab results. The brand posts COAs or a batch lookup on its own site. Several well-known brands (Charlotte's Web, Lazarus Naturals, Joy Organics, Cornbread Hemp, CBDistillery) had no roller-ball product in their catalogs on 23 Sep 2026, so they are not here.
- Which report we read. Whether we opened a finished-product COA for this roll-on, an ingredient COA, or no product-specific COA.
- THC. The tested result where we read one, or the brand's own label statement.
- Label clarity. CBD per container, container size, and a full ingredient list.
- Price. The one-time price listed on the brand's site on 23 Sep 2026, for the size noted.
Federal Section 781 takes effect 12 Nov 2026. It measures total THC after decarboxylation and caps it at 0.4 mg per container. Where a label or COA shows more than that, we state the figure. We do not predict what any brand will do, and this is not legal advice.

1. Proof Ice Hot CBD Roll-On
Proof Ice Hot CBD Roll-On holds 1,000 mg of CBD in a 30 ml roller bottle, listed at $35. The formula pairs menthol and camphor with arnica, eucalyptus, peppermint, clove, and copaiba for a cooling-then-warming sensation on the skin. The finished-product COA from SC Labs (Santa Cruz, California; ISO/IEC 17025), issued 12 May 2025 for batch HR0101-050325, shows 1,001.76 mg of total CBD per bottle and total THC not detected. To be exact about testing: that report covers potency and microbials. The full contaminant panels (pesticides, heavy metals, residual solvents, mycotoxins) are posted for the raw CBD distillate, tested by KCA Laboratories in November 2025. Good fit if: you want a THC-not-detected roll-on with a strong menthol and camphor feel, a clear mg-per-bottle label, and a lab report that matches the product.
Not the best fit if: you want an unscented or menthol-free option, a choice of strengths or sizes (we make one), a larger container (cbdMD's and Receptra's hold three times the volume), or a finished-product COA newer than May 2025 that includes contaminant panels on the bottle itself.
2. Sagely Naturals Relief & Recovery Active Roll-On
Sagely's is the only other roll-on here whose finished-product COA we could read, linked from its product page. The test results we read (Infinite Chemical Analysis Labs, San Diego, 2 Apr 2026, batch TOP260007) cover potency, residual solvents, heavy metals, microbials, mycotoxins, and pesticides, all marked Pass, with total THC not detected and 281 mg of total CBD per package. The report is prepared for GenCanna, Sagely's parent company.
It is a broad-spectrum roll-on with 250 mg of CBD in 2 oz, listed at $34.99, with menthol, camphor bark oil, peppermint, eucalyptus, arnica, and lavender. The label is cosmetic-style, with no Drug Facts panel.
Good fit if: you want a recent, full-panel report on the finished roll-on and a THC-not-detected result.
Not the best fit if: you want more CBD per container; at 250 mg, it has a quarter of what ours does at about the same price.
3. cbdMD Broad Spectrum CBD Freeze Roller
cbdMD sells its Freeze Roller in three strengths (750, 1,500, and 3,000 mg), all in a 3 fl oz container, listed at $44.99, $64.99, and $84.99. The label says it is "batch-tested to ensure no detectable THC," and the page also carries a Prop 65 warning for THC. The brand's COA page supports lookup by QR code or batch number. We did not open the roll-on's own COA.
This is the one product here with an over-the-counter Drug Facts panel on its label. The panel lists menthol 4.2% as the active ingredient, with the purpose "Topical Analgesic." The page text says 4% menthol and lists arnica and tea tree oil, which the label omits, so read the physical label.
Good fit if: you want a larger container, several strengths, and a batch lookup.
Not the best fit if: you want camphor in the formula, or a page and label that match.
4. Medterra Rapid Recovery Cooling 1200mg CBD Roll On
Medterra's cooling roll-on has 1,200 mg of CBD, listed at $39.99, with menthol, camphor bark oil, arnica, lavender oil, and aloe. The label image calls the extract broad-spectrum, while the store tags it as isolate. We did not find the container volume stated anywhere. A Heating-Cooling version (1,200 mg, $39.99, CBD isolate) adds methyl salicylate.
Medterra says each product has a batch-level COA on its certificates of analysis page, and that its products are not tested for herbicides such as glyphosate. The roll-on COA did not load for us.
Good fit if: you want a mid-priced, higher-mg roll-on with camphor.
Not the best fit if: you want the container size, the spectrum, and the lab report all confirmed before you buy.
5. CBD Living CBD Roll On Freeze
CBD Living, in Corona, California, has the widest strength range here (500 to 10,000 mg), a broad-spectrum nano extract with menthol; the 1,000 mg size is listed at $49.99. It posts COAs from Infinite Chemical Analysis Labs (San Diego) on its test results page. We did not open a roll-on COA; the tincture COA we read (July 2026) showed total THC not detected.
Good fit if: you want a very high-strength option from a California brand with recent posted COAs.
Not the best fit if: you want the container size and full ingredient list confirmed; we could not verify either.
6. Extract Labs Full Spectrum CBD Roll-On 2000mg
Extract Labs, in Lafayette, Colorado, runs a batch database searchable back to 2021; we did not open this roll-on's COA. It has 2,000 mg of CBD in 1.80 oz (51 g), with menthol crystals, arnica, rosemary oil, lavender oil, and jojoba, listed at $89.99.
It is full-spectrum, and the package reads "2000MG CBD 50MG THC." As of September 2026, Section 781, effective 12 Nov 2026, caps total THC at 0.4 mg per container.
Good fit if: you want a full-spectrum roll-on and a brand with a long, searchable batch archive.
Not the best fit if: you want to avoid THC, or you want a lower price.
7. Receptra Naturals Clinical Strength Roll-On 2000mg CBD + Menthol
Receptra's roll-on holds 2,000 mg of full-spectrum CBD in 3 oz, listed at $55.00, with menthol, camphor powder, arnica, frankincense oil, tea tree oil, and aloe. The label says it "contains no more than 0.3% THC by weight."
The report linked from Receptra's certificate of analysis page for this product is an ingredient COA for the full-spectrum oil concentrate (Nordic Analytical Laboratories, potency tested 2 Dec 2024), covering potency, heavy metals, and pesticides. We found no finished-product COA and no microbial, solvent, or mycotoxin results.
Good fit if: you want a large, full-spectrum roll-on with camphor at a mid-range price.
Not the best fit if: you want a finished-product COA, or a THC-not-detected product.
8. NuLeaf Naturals Heating + Cooling Roll-On Salve
Despite the name, this is a twist-up salve stick, not a roller ball; it is here because the brand calls it a roll-on. It has 1,000 mg of full-spectrum CBD in a 1 oz stick, listed at $48.45, with menthol and methyl salicylate in a beeswax, jojoba, and shea base.
NuLeaf, in Denver, has a batch-number lookup on its lab reports page; we did not open this stick's COA. The brand states its products contain less than 0.3% delta-9 THC on a dry weight basis.
Good fit if: you prefer a solid stick to a liquid roller.
Not the best fit if: you want an actual roller ball, or a THC-free product.
FAQ
Is a roll-on better than a cream?
Neither is better for everyone. A roll-on is quick and keeps your hands clean; a cream covers a larger area. Our roll-on vs. cream vs. patch guide compares the formats.
What does the mg number mean on a CBD roll-on?
It is the total CBD in the whole container, not per application. Divide by the container size to compare strength across brands. We explain it in what 1,000 mg means on a topical.
Can a CBD roll-on show up on a drug test?
A full-spectrum roll-on can contain THC, and no brand can guarantee a result. If you are tested, choose a product whose COA shows THC not detected and read does CBD show up on a drug test.
How do I use a menthol and camphor roll-on?
Follow the label: clean, unbroken skin only, away from eyes and mouth, and wash your hands afterward. Try a small area first, and if you take medication, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
