Best CBD for Sleep (2026)

Best CBD for Sleep (2026)

Proof publishes this list and ranks its own product first. We explain how we chose every pick, and you can check each brand's lab results yourself.

The honest answer first: the research on CBD and CBN for sleep is limited and mixed. A 2020 review cited by the NIH's National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) found insufficient evidence for cannabinoid products for sleep conditions. A 2024 CBN trial of nearly 300 adults found that CBN did not improve its main measure of sleep quality. So no product on this list, including ours, is proven to help you sleep.

What this list can do is help you compare what is in the bottle. We compared seven CBD products people use in a wind-down routine, all from brands that publish lab results, on THC results, other active ingredients (CBN, melatonin, herbs, terpenes), and how clearly amounts are stated. Our own Proof CBD + CBN Sleepy Drops come first, and we are open about where they fall short.

A good routine matters more than any product. Our guides to bedtime routines for better sleep and natural sleep aids compared cover what the evidence supports. If poor sleep has lasted for weeks, or you snore loudly or gasp at night, see a clinician first.

Key takeaways

  • Sleep evidence for CBD and CBN is limited and mixed. Think of any product here as one part of a wind-down routine, not a fix.
  • Many "sleep" CBD products also contain melatonin (one oil here has 150 mg per bottle). Read the label for what you are actually taking.
  • Full-spectrum sleep oils can contain real THC. One COA we read showed 28.3 mg of total THC per bottle.
  • CBD can interact with medications and add to the effect of alcohol or sleep medications. Ask your doctor or pharmacist first.

What the research says (as of September 2026)

CBD. NCCIH cites a 2020 review of 12 studies (250 participants) that found insufficient evidence for cannabinoid products for any sleep condition, with most studies at moderate to high risk of bias. The FDA lists liver injury, drug interactions, and extra sedation with alcohol or sleep medications as known risks.

CBN. Human research is very limited. In a 2024 trial funded by a cannabis company (Canopy Growth), adults with self-rated poor sleep took placebo, 20 mg CBN, or CBN plus 10, 20, or 100 mg CBD for seven nights. In 293 analyzed participants, 20 mg CBN did not significantly improve the main measure, sleep quality, but did reduce night awakenings and overall sleep disturbance compared with placebo. Adding CBD did not improve on CBN alone. The study was short.

Melatonin. It has the most research of the common natural options, mostly for jet lag and shift work. Our natural sleep aids comparison covers the evidence and cautions.

How we chose

  1. Public lab results on the brand's own site. We dropped Lazarus Naturals and Extract Labs because their lab pages would not load for us, and CBDistillery because we could not verify its products.
  2. THC result and date. From the COA we read, or the brand's own statement where we did not read one.
  3. Ingredient transparency. Whether the brand states the amount of each active ingredient (CBD, CBN, melatonin) per serving.
  4. Report scope. Full contaminant panel on the finished product, or potency only.
  5. Price. The one-time, non-member price listed on the brand's site on 23 Sep 2026.

A note on law: federal Section 781 takes effect 12 Nov 2026 and caps total THC at 0.4 mg per container. Where a COA shows more, we state the tested figure and date. We do not predict outcomes, and this is not legal advice.

1. Proof CBD + CBN Sleepy Drops

Proof CBD + CBN Sleepy Drops combine broad-spectrum CBD with CBN: 20 mg of CBD and 20 mg of CBN per dose, 30 doses in a 15 ml bottle, listed at $35. The finished-product COA from SC Labs (Santa Cruz, California; ISO/IEC 17025), dated 15 May 2025, shows total THC not detected. You can read the report on our lab testing page.

For transparency: 20 mg of CBN is also the amount tested in the 2024 trial described above, and that trial found CBN did not improve the main sleep-quality measure and that adding CBD did not improve on CBN alone.

Proof is women-owned and based in Sebastopol, in Sonoma County, California. Co-founder and CEO Sarah Miletich holds a BS in Organic Chemistry and formulates and quality-checks every batch. The finished-product COA covers potency and microbials. Full contaminant panels are posted for the raw ingredients: the CBN isolate (SC Labs, May 2025, all passing) and the CBD distillate (KCA Laboratories, November 2025, THC not detected).

Good fit if: you want CBD and CBN at stated per-dose amounts, THC not detected, and lab reports you can read.

Not the best fit if: you are looking for a product with strong evidence behind it (the research on CBD and CBN for sleep is limited), you want a full-spectrum option or a choice of strengths (Sleepy Drops come in one), or you want contaminant panels on a finished-product COA newer than May 2025.

2. NuLeaf Naturals Deep Rest Broad Spectrum Oil

NuLeaf's Deep Rest oil adds CBN isolate to a broad-spectrum CBD extract. The COA we read (lot 3203-B6a, Kaycha Labs, Denver, ISO 17025, signed 3 Apr 2026) is a finished-tincture report with pesticides, heavy metals, microbials, mycotoxins, and solvents all passing, and total THC ND. Batch PDFs are on its lab reports page.

The 30 mL bottle is labeled 1,150 mg of total cannabinoids; the page does not give the CBD and CBN split or a serving size. It is listed at $43.59 for non-members, with a lower member price.

Good fit if: you want a CBD and CBN oil with a recent full-panel COA and THC not detected.

Not the best fit if: you want to know exactly how much CBN you are taking per serving.

3. FOCL Good Night Broad Spectrum Sleep Drops

FOCL, based in Thousand Oaks, California, lists 33 mg of broad-spectrum hemp extract and 6 mg of CBN per serving, and calls the drops melatonin-free. They are listed at $49 for a single bottle.

That COA (Kaycha Labs, Davie, Florida, ISO/IEC 17025; batch 32BD1E, 13 Apr 2024) passed pesticides, heavy metals, microbials, mycotoxins, and residual solvents, and measured 1,024.42 mg of CBD per container. The page says "THC-free," while that COA reports 0.29 mg of total THC per container.

Good fit if: you want a melatonin-free CBD and CBN formula with a full contaminant panel.

Not the best fit if: you want a recent COA (the linked one is from April 2024) or a THC-not-detected result.

4. cbdMD Broad Spectrum CBD PM Oil Tincture

cbdMD's PM tincture has the most ingredients on this list: 1,500 mg of broad-spectrum CBD per 1 oz bottle (40 mg per serving), with CBG and CBN in the blend (amounts not stated), plus 150 mg of melatonin per bottle, valerian root, chamomile, and hops. It is listed at $54.99 (Mint). The page says it "has no THC" and is "batch-tested to ensure no detectable THC."

The brand offers a batch lookup on its COA page and says it uses an ISO-accredited lab, which is not named there; we did not read this product's COA.

Good fit if: you want CBD and melatonin in one oil and a batch lookup.

Not the best fit if: you want to avoid melatonin or herbs, or you want per-serving amounts for every ingredient.

5. Joy Organics THC-Free CBD Sleep Softgels with CBN

For people who prefer not to use a dropper, Joy's softgels each contain 25 mg of CBD, 3 mg of CBN, and 3 mg of melatonin (a higher-strength version has 50 mg CBD and 20 mg CBN), 30 softgels for $64.95. The brand calls them "completely THC-free."

Joy posts COAs by lot on its quality assurance page; we did not review a softgel-specific COA for this list.

Good fit if: you prefer a measured softgel with stated CBD, CBN, and melatonin amounts.

Not the best fit if: you want a melatonin-free option, or a lower price per serving.

6. Kanibi SLEEP (CBD + CBN)

Kanibi, made in Eugene, Oregon, sells its CBD and CBN sleep oil at $55 for 750 mg, with linalool and limonene terpenes. The page does not state the spectrum.

The COA posted on its certificate of analysis page is for a 1,000 mg size (Solida Labs, Nov 2025), not the 750 or 1,500 mg sizes on sale. It shows CBN at 17.93 mg per gram and delta-9 THC below the limit of quantitation, with no contaminant panels.

Good fit if: you want a CBD and CBN oil with added terpenes at a mid-range price.

Not the best fit if: you want a COA that matches your bottle size, contaminant panels, or stated per-serving amounts.

7. BATCH Dream CBD Oil Tincture

BATCH's Dream is a full-spectrum oil with a sleep terpene blend (myrcene, linalool, terpinolene) and no added CBN: 1,000 mg in 30 mL, about 17 mg of CBD per 0.5 mL, 60 servings, listed at $60.

The COA we read (lot 24E1E5, SC Labs, issued 8 Aug 2026) passed pesticides, residual solvents, heavy metals, and microbiology (we did not see a mycotoxin line), and shows 1,001.225 mg CBD and 28.304 mg of total THC per bottle. Section 781 caps total THC at 0.4 mg per container from 12 Nov 2026.

Good fit if: you want a full-spectrum oil with a recent, detailed COA and a sleep terpene blend.

Not the best fit if: you want to avoid THC, or you want CBN in the formula.

FAQ

Does CBD help you sleep?

The evidence is limited and mixed, as the research section above explains. Some people use CBD as part of a wind-down routine; if you try it, pair it with steady sleep habits and talk to your clinician. See CBD tincture for sleep.

Is CBN better than CBD for sleep?

Research on CBN is very limited. In the 2024 trial, 20 mg of CBN reduced night awakenings but did not improve the main sleep-quality measure, and adding CBD did not add to CBN's effect. Our CBD vs CBG vs CBN guide explains the compounds.

Should I take CBD with melatonin or a sleep medication?

Ask your doctor or pharmacist first. The FDA lists extra sedation with alcohol and sleep medications as a known CBD risk, and CBD can interact with other drugs. Our guide to CBD and prescription medication explains why.
