CBD + CBN Sleepy Drops: Your Owner's Guide
This page is for anyone who has a bottle of CBD + CBN Sleepy Drops, or is about to. Sleepy Drops are our evening tincture: each 0.5 ml serving holds 20 mg of CBD and 20 mg of CBN. Below: the label directions, where they fit in an evening, what to note early on, the safety points that matter most at night, and how refills and returns work.
I'm Sarah Miletich. I'm a chemist, and I formulate Sleepy Drops. I'll stick to what the label and our lab reports say, and I'll be plain about what the research on CBN does not yet show.

How to use it
The label says: "Take 0.5ml once or twice daily, increasing as desired." It also says: "Start with 0.5ml at night."
- Shake the bottle gently. Some settling in an oil is normal.
- Open the cap. It is child-resistant; our post on how to open Proof drops shows an easy trick.
- Fill the dropper to the 0.5 ml line. That is one serving. Use the line, not a drop count, since drop size varies.
- Place the oil under your tongue and hold it there for about 60 seconds, then swallow.
- Close the cap fully and put the bottle back where it lives.
Timing before bed. Timing varies from person to person, and oil taken with food or a drink is absorbed more slowly than drops held under the tongue. In practice, many owners take their serving as part of winding down rather than at the moment the light goes off. Because the drops are sugar-free, the product page notes you can take them after brushing your teeth.
Build it into an evening routine. A tincture is one small step in an evening, not the whole of it. Our list of the best bedtime routines walks through the habits that public sleep guidance keeps returning to, such as a steady wake time and a dim, screen-free last half hour. If you are also thinking about daytime use, Comfort Drops vs. Sleepy Drops explains why we make two formulas, and how to build a morning-to-night CBD routine shows how people lay out a day.
A second serving at night. The label allows 0.5 ml twice daily, and the product page mentions keeping the bottle nearby for re-dosing at night "if desired." If you do:
- Only take it when you won't need to drive, operate machinery or be fully alert for the rest of the night and the next morning.
- If you take any medication that can make you sleepy, ask your clinician or pharmacist before using Sleepy Drops at all, and before a second serving in particular.
- Never combine a second serving with alcohol.
What CBN is, briefly
CBN (cannabinol) is a cannabinoid that forms as THC oxidizes over time. It is a different molecule from CBD, not a stronger CBD, and it is the ingredient that makes Sleepy Drops our evening formula; Comfort Drops have no added CBN (their lab report shows about 0.7 mg per serving, against 20 mg here). Human research on CBN is limited. A 2021 review of the published studies found the clinical research "dated and limited," mostly small studies from the 1970s and 1980s, and called for proper trials (Corroon, 2021). Studies since then have been small and early. So we don't tell you what CBN will do for your night. Our CBD vs CBG vs CBN post compares the three cannabinoids in more depth.
Your first two weeks
- Start with 0.5 ml at night, as the label says, around the same time each evening.
- Keep the rest of your evening steady. Caffeine, screens, late meals and alcohol all change a night, and changing several at once makes it hard to see anything.
- Keep a one-line log. The time you took your serving, whether under the tongue or with food, roughly when you went to bed, and a word on how you felt the next morning. Our first 30 days with CBD article has a log you can copy.
- Adjust only after a steady stretch. The label says "increasing as desired," and the only step up it describes is a second 0.5 ml serving. If you are thinking about more than that, talk to your clinician or pharmacist first.
Is this normal? An earthy taste is normal for hemp extract. Some people find MCT oil unsettles the stomach; see our post on CBD side effects. The FDA lists drowsiness among the side effects of CBD. If you still feel drowsy the next morning, note it, don't drive until it passes, skip any second serving, and talk to a clinician if it continues. If anything feels wrong, stop.
Getting the most from each bottle
- Same time, most nights. A routine you repeat is easier to read than one that moves around.
- Pick one method. Under the tongue and in a drink have different estimated timings, so switching back and forth muddies your log.
- Store it in a cool, dark place. A drawer beats a sunny windowsill or a steamy bathroom. If the nightstand is within reach of children or pets, use a drawer that closes.
- Close it every time. Air, light and heat are what slowly degrade an oil. Our post on whether CBD oil expires explains more.
Safety notes
- Medications. The FDA says CBD can affect how other drugs work, and warns that combining it with alcohol or other drugs that slow brain activity raises the risk of sedation and drowsiness, which can lead to injuries (FDA). If you take any medication, especially one that makes you sleepy, ask your clinician or pharmacist first. Read CBD and prescription medication.
- Drug tests. The finished-product report shows total THC as not detected. That is not a promise about any drug test; read does CBD show up on a drug test?
- Driving. Sleepy Drops are an evening product. Don't drive or operate machinery after taking them. See can you drive after taking CBD?
- Alcohol. Don't pair them with a nightcap. See CBD and alcohol.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding. The FDA "strongly advises against" using CBD in any form while pregnant or breastfeeding (FDA). Please don't use Sleepy Drops during that time. Our CBD safety page covers more.
- Children and pets. Keep the bottle out of reach. Sleepy Drops are not a pet product; see the Pet Drops guide.
Travel, storage and the bottle
The cap. The trick in our how-to-open post removes the cap's top layer, after which the bottle opens normally and is no longer child-resistant. If you use it, keep the bottle well out of reach.
Shelf life. An unopened bottle stored well generally keeps its potency for one to two years, and the expiry date printed on the box is the one that counts, so keep the box. Once opened, use it within about a year.
Flying. A 15 ml bottle is about half an ounce. TSA allows carry-on liquids in containers of 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less, in one quart-sized bag (TSA). Rules about CBD differ by destination, so check before you go; see our tips for traveling with CBD.
Refills, subscriptions and returns
Subscribe & Save. Sleepy Drops are 15% off every 2 weeks ($29.75 an order), 10% off every month ($31.50), or 5% off every 6 weeks. One serving a night lasts about a month, so monthly is the natural match; if you often take a second serving, a shorter cadence may fit. Modify, skip, pause or cancel any time, free, in your Customer Account Portal. See the Subscribe & Save page.
Bundle. The Day & Night Relief Bundle pairs Sleepy Drops with Comfort Drops for $60, $10 less than buying both separately. Bundles are not available on subscription.
Shipping. Orders ship in 1 to 3 business days from Northern California; standard delivery takes 3 to 7 business days. Free shipping over $60; smaller orders, including single-bottle subscription orders, pay shipping. US only, and we don't ship to Montana. Orders can't be edited once placed.
Returns. Our "No Regrets" guarantee runs 30 days from the date your order is delivered:
- Opened or used: no need to send it back. You get the full price back minus a $5 processing fee; sales tax isn't refunded. This applies to your first purchase of a specific product, for one unit.
- Unopened, in its tamper-evident packaging: we send a prepaid label and refund the full price plus tax, minus the label cost (typically about $5).
- Damaged or wrong item: send a photo and we'll replace it or refund it in full.
Approved refunds go back to your original payment method within 10 business days. To start, contact us with your order number and a short note on which item and why. Full terms: refund policy.
FAQ
How long before bed should I take Sleepy Drops?
Timing varies, and it is slower with food than under the tongue. Many owners simply make it part of their wind-down.
Can I take Sleepy Drops after brushing my teeth?
Yes. The product page notes they are sugar-free.
Do Sleepy Drops contain melatonin?
No. The ingredients are MCT oil (coconut), hemp cannabis oil and tocopherol (vitamin E). If you already take melatonin or any sleep medication, check with your clinician or pharmacist before adding Sleepy Drops.
Can I take them during the day?
The label says to start at night, and they contain CBN, which is why we make them as our evening formula. For daytime, see Comfort Drops vs. Sleepy Drops.
Will Sleepy Drops make me high?
The finished-product lab report shows total THC as not detected. CBD and CBN are not THC.
I felt groggy the next morning. What should I do?
Note it in your log, don't drive until it passes, and skip any second serving. If it continues, stop and talk to a clinician.
