CBD Comfort Drops: Your Owner's Guide
This page is for anyone with a bottle of CBD Comfort Drops on the counter, or one on the way. It answers what people ask us most once an order arrives: how much to take, how to take it, how long a bottle lasts, what is normal, and what to do if the drops turn out not to suit you.
I'm Sarah Miletich. I'm a chemist, and I formulate Comfort Drops. Everything below comes from the label and our lab reports, not from marketing copy. Where the research is thin, I'll say so.

How to use it
The label says: "Take 0.5ml once or twice daily, increasing gradually as desired." It also says: "Use consistently before adjusting your amount."
Here is what that looks like in practice:
- Shake the bottle gently. Some settling in an oil is normal.
- Open the cap. It is child-resistant. If it fights you, our post on how to open Proof drops shows the trick.
- Fill the dropper to the 0.5 ml line. That is one serving, 33 mg of CBD. Use the line rather than counting drops, because drop size varies with how hard you squeeze.
- Place the oil under your tongue and hold it there for about 60 seconds, then swallow.
- Close the cap fully. Air and light are what age an oil, so a loose cap matters.
Under the tongue or in food? The label allows both. If the taste bothers you, stir your serving into something with a little fat in it, such as yogurt, a smoothie or oatmeal. Oil does not dissolve in water, so a glass of plain water just floats it. The product page notes that with food or drinks it may take longer before you notice anything. Whichever you pick, stick with it for a while so your days are comparable. Our simple guide to CBD tinctures has more on both methods.
Once or twice a day? Start with once, at a time you can repeat: with breakfast is easy to remember. Twice daily is within the label, and it halves how long a bottle lasts (15 days instead of 30). For how people think about amounts in general, see our CBD dosage guide.
Pairing with other Proof products. Some owners use Comfort Drops in the day and CBD + CBN Sleepy Drops in the evening, and some keep an Ice Hot CBD Roll-On on hand for the skin. We explain how the two drops differ in Comfort Drops vs. Sleepy Drops, and how people lay out a whole day in how to build a morning-to-night CBD routine. Each product has its own label, so follow each one on its own terms. If you take any medication, check with your clinician or pharmacist before adding a second product.
Your first two weeks
I can't promise you will feel any particular thing, and I'd be wary of anyone who does. People vary, and research on CBD at everyday amounts is still limited. What you can do is set up a fair trial:
- Take the label serving at the same time each day. One serving on one day is a small sample.
- Keep a one-line log. The time, how you took it (under the tongue or with food), and anything you notice, good or bad. Our first 30 days with CBD article has a log you can copy.
- Plan your first serving for a quiet day. The FDA lists drowsiness among the side effects it has seen with CBD (FDA). Find out how it sits with you before a drive or a big meeting.
- Adjust only after a steady stretch. The label asks for consistent use before you change anything. The first step up the label allows is from once daily to twice daily. If you're thinking about going beyond that, talk to your clinician or pharmacist first.
Is this normal? An earthy, slightly bitter taste is normal for hemp extract. Some people find MCT oil unsettles the stomach, especially on an empty one, and taking the drops with food often helps; our post on CBD side effects covers this. If anything feels wrong, stop and ask a clinician.
Getting the most from each bottle
- Consistency beats clever timing. Taking your serving at roughly the same time each day tells you more than moving it around.
- Store it in a cool, dark place. A cupboard or drawer, not a sunny windowsill, a steamy bathroom or a hot car. Don't pour it into another container, and don't refrigerate it unless the label says to: cold thickens the oil and makes the dropper harder to read.
- Close it every time. Oxygen is one of the three things (with light and heat) that slowly degrade an oil.
Our post on whether CBD oil expires explains why, and how to tell if a bottle has turned.
Safety notes
- Medications. The FDA says CBD can affect how other drugs work and has been linked to liver injury. If you take any prescription or over-the-counter medicine, ask your clinician or pharmacist before you start. Read CBD and prescription medication.
- Drug tests. Comfort Drops are broad-spectrum, and the finished-product report shows total THC as not detected. That is not a promise about any drug test. Read does CBD show up on a drug test? before you rely on it.
- Driving. Because drowsiness is possible, don't drive or operate machinery until you know how CBD affects you. See can you drive after taking CBD?
- Alcohol. The FDA warns that combining CBD with alcohol or other drugs that slow brain activity raises the risk of sedation and drowsiness. See CBD and alcohol.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding. The FDA "strongly advises against" using CBD in any form while pregnant or breastfeeding (FDA). Please don't use Comfort Drops during that time. Our CBD safety page collects the rest.
- Children and pets. Keep the bottle out of reach of children. Comfort Drops are not a pet product; see the Pet Drops guide instead.
Travel, storage and the bottle
The cap. The child-resistant cap is there to keep small hands out. The trick in our how-to-open post takes the top layer off, and after that the bottle opens normally, so it is no longer child-resistant. If you use the trick, store the bottle well out of reach.
Shelf life. An unopened bottle stored well generally keeps its potency for one to two years, and the expiry date printed on the box is the one that counts, so keep the box. Once opened, use it within about a year. At label use a bottle lasts 15 to 30 days, so this mostly matters for a spare.
Flying. A 15 ml bottle is about half an ounce. TSA limits carry-on liquids to containers of 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less, packed in one quart-sized bag (TSA). Rules about CBD itself differ by destination, so check before you go; our tips for traveling with CBD list covers the basics. Keep the bottle out of a hot car on either end.

- Damaged or wrong item: send us a photo and we'll replace it or refund it in full.
Approved refunds go back to your original payment method within 10 business days. To start, contact us with your order number and a short note on which item and why. The full terms are in our refund policy.
FAQ
How many drops is 0.5 ml?
It depends on the dropper and how you squeeze it, which is why the line on the dropper is more reliable than a drop count. One filled 0.5 ml serving holds 33 mg of CBD.
Can I take Comfort Drops in the evening?
The label doesn't set a time of day. Comfort Drops have no added CBN, the cannabinoid in our Sleepy Drops; the lab report shows only a small amount (1.47 mg per ml, about 0.7 mg per serving) that comes with the broad-spectrum extract, compared with 20 mg per serving in Sleepy Drops. Some people do feel drowsy with CBD, so notice how it sits with you and choose your time to suit.
Will Comfort Drops make me high?
They are broad-spectrum CBD, and the finished-product lab report shows total THC as not detected. CBD is not intoxicating the way THC is.
My oil looks a little darker than when I bought it. Is it OK?
Gradual darkening over months is common. Darkening plus a rancid, sour smell is not. Our does CBD oil expire? post explains the difference.
Can I give Comfort Drops to my dog?
Please don't. Human products aren't made or labeled for pets. Read can I give my dog human CBD oil? and talk to your veterinarian.
